Dunstable Downs, looking up Whipsnade Road in 1905 with West Street on the left. A chalk quarry can be seen in the distance which provided the raw material for a whiting works which would have been somewhere to the right of where the photographer was standing. Part of the quarry later became the California swimming pool and the California ballroom. Today, it's a housing estate which includes Royce Close.
