Jack Train, a huge star in England during the Second World War, drew the crowds to a farm at Bidwell, just outside Houghton Regis, in May 1955 when he presented the prizes at a gymkhana there.
He was one of a number of showbiz stars who came to the annual event - comedian Jimmy Wheeler was a later guest.
Jack Train, a comedian and character actor, was famous for his appearances in the radio show ITMA (It's That Man Again) with Tommy Handley between 1939 and 1949. One of his characters was Colonel Chinstrap, a heavy drinker whose catchphrase, "I don't mind if I do", was eagerly awaited by listeners every week. He also played a German spy ("This is Funf speaking") and a handyman named Claude ("After you Cecil" - "No after you Claude"). He died in 1966.
