Church Street

Church Street, Dunstable, long before it was widened, looking down from the crossroads. This is from a postcard postmarked 1922. The sign of the White Horse pub is clearly visible. The Gibbs and Dandy hardware shop on the right was unusual because customers could walk through and emerge in the other Gibbs and Dandy shop fronting on to High Street South. The distinctive building which now houses the Book Castle can be seen two doors away. It was originally a drill hall and then an antiques shop.
